Halstead in Bloom Britain in Bloom

About us

The ethos of Halstead in Bloom, and indeed the whole of the In Bloom effort is to encourage pride in the environment and a desire to keep the local area clean, tidy and a pleasant place to live, work and visit. The Halstead in Bloom team strive to achieve this by spreading the word and showing what can be done with many hands making light work in litter picking, developing green areas, planting containers, etc. There are no subscriptions to pay to be part of the Halstead in Bloom team, and there's no need to attend meetings, fill in forms or pledge allegiance. All that is required is a pride in the Town and a wish to make sure that Halstead is prominent in the Braintree District.

Halstead in Bloom also prepares the Town's entry into the Anglia in Bloom competition. The first entry was in 2000, and Halstead was given an award for Best Commercial Area. Other awards followed and in 2003, the first year that the RHS marking system was used, Halstead was given a Silver Award. From 2004 to 2008 Halstead was awarded Silver Gilt in the Anglia in Bloom competition, no mean feat but that was topped in 2009 with a Gold award and Halstead was also named as Best Town in the Anglia in Bloom Competition 2009. This success meant that Halstead has been named as a Finalist in the Britain in Bloom competition 2010 and the Town will be representing the Anglia region in that competition.

This is a great honour for Halstead, and it will take enormous efforts from all parts of the community if Halstead is to reap the benefits of the publicity it will engender.

HiB works in close partnership with Halstead Town Council, Braintree District Council and Essex County Council - and it is a partnership in every sense of the word. There is much that volunteers can bring to the effort that is required to ensure that all runs well within the Town. Of course there is a great deal that can only be done by paid agencies, but at the very least volunteers can report deficiencies and instances of fly tipping, heavy litter, pot holes, etc.

The motto for Halstead in Bloom is "do it if you can; if you can't then tell someone who can get it done"!
